Instances

An instance is a separate Polysync workspace. Your organisation can have more than one — for example Development, Test and Production, or one per business unit — and keep their configuration and history completely apart.

What is shared and what is separate

Shared across your organisation's instances Separate in each instance
Your Microsoft Entra organisation and sign-in Platforms, secret vaults and contention profiles
Your user account Jobs, Tasks, schedules and dependencies
Run history and monitoring data
Usage against the instance's plan
Your role in that instance
The instance's display name and colour

Each instance's data is stored in its own isolated database schema, so configuration in one instance cannot affect another.

Getting another instance

Each instance comes from its own Polysync subscription on the Microsoft Azure Marketplace. Subscribe again from the Marketplace and activate the new subscription to add an instance for your organisation.

Switching instances

When you belong to more than one instance, an instance switcher appears in the top bar. It shows your role in each instance and flags subscription issues, such as a subscription that has been suspended.

When you sign in:

  • If you belong to one instance, it opens automatically.
  • Otherwise the instance you used last opens.
  • If neither applies, you are asked to choose an instance.

The current instance is part of the page address, so you can bookmark a specific instance or share a link to it with a colleague who also has access.

Roles per instance

Your role is set separately in each instance. You might be an administrator in Development and an operator in Production. If your access to an instance has been deactivated, it is shown in the switcher but cannot be opened.
